farmer and his wife, or for a romantic poet struggling with his latest book of sonnets.

ability to support a small army of people, be they family and servants or just very large
families.

perfect for multifamily holidays, special occasions and reunions.
Often a large group thinks it has no option but to stay in a hotel. Which is all very well
of course – it can be quite fun to take over a hotel and know that you know most of the
guests on your floor. But in a hotel you are trammelled by certain things, like times to be
home before the front door gets locked or the fact that meals are only served between

want, dress when you want, wash when you want. If you all want to stroll to the nearest
pub and come home at three in the morning you can. And if you want to spend a day

you thought possible just by standing outside at night.

furnishing and energy efficiency. If there are two of you, you can go for something small
and intimate – but if there’s a big group, you can still consider staying in cottages for
large groups rather than automatically assuming that you have to holiday in a hotel or
on a campsite somewhere.
